*On September 1, Relia, Inc. merged with KDDI Evolva, Inc. to form a new company: Altius Link, Inc.

Relia's subsidiary, MOCAP Thailand, is a BPO provider headquartered in Bangkok. It was established in 2008. MOCAP specialized in onshore and offshore support. Its main businesses are customer and technical support, telesales and marketing research for APAC region. It operates from three locations in Bangkok with the maximum capacity of 1,200 seats.

Every year, expats from Japan HQ are sent to work with our subsidiary. Mr. Atsushi Eto started to work at MOCAP Thailand in 2018. Prior to that, he had several business trips to Thailand but this is his first experience working abroad. We had a chance to catch up with him in the following interview.

Q: Why did you choose to be an expat in Thailand?
Eto-san I have been to Thailand many times for work and vacation but I have never thought of working abroad. I've worked in a global IT company before but never any job that uses English. When my boss suggested the opening position at MOCAP, it was an opportunity of a lifetime so I took it.

Q: How about a Thai agent/operator?
Eto-san: The significant strength I feel in Thai agents is that they are very good at teamwork. Everyone in the team will give each other feedback, problem solving and try to improve performance. Another strength is that they have a very good work attitude. They work hard to make sure the project is successful.

Q: What are the differences between Thai and Japanese in operation?
Eto-san: I would say mostly they are the same except for some points I mentioned earlier in terms of receiving requirements which are just cultural differences in my opinion.

Q: Japan is promoting the strengthening of BCP and working from home through Covid-19. How about is it in Thailand?
Eto-san : As far as I know it's quite similar to Thailand, such as strengthening BCP plans and utilizing working from home, but it all depends on whether clients wish to choose the options or not.

Q: Japan is a country with strong infrastructure in terms of water, electricity and building. What are the differences in terms of technology between Thailand and Japan?
Eto-san: If we talk about the future technology, Thailand and Japan are not very far apart. I think Thai people are more flexible and more accepting to try new tech if it works, whereas in Japan, people are a bit more traditional.
